Slaters & Co is a successful and growing Accountancy practice based near Newcastle Under Lyme, dedicated to delivering excellent services to clients through our friendly but professional approach.

We have a fantastic new opportunity for a part or fully qualified Accountant. Working as part of our dedicated and professional team, you will prepare client accounts including statutory accounts, P&L, balance sheets and trial balance. You will complete VAT returns, carry out general bookkeeping and deal efficiently with client queries. You will have at least two years’ accountancy experience, an eye for detail and accuracy and a well organised and analytical approach. Equally important is your positive team working approach, complete customer focus and a commitment to demonstrating our core values.

We are keen to hear from candidates who wish to develop their career in accountancy. Equally we invite candidates with more Client Management experience who may be returners to work or looking for a change of employer. We are happy to consider part time of full-time hours of work.

Job Purpose

Deliver an excellent accountancy service to a portfolio of clients. Manage relationships with clients and ensure their requirements are met so they have the best possible experience of Slaters.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Prepare financial statements for limited companies and sole traders – statutory accounts, P&L, balance sheets, trial balance.
  2. Submit year end accounts to HMRC and Companies House.
  3. Management of clients’ day to day book keeping.
  4. Manage relationships with a portfolio of clients, ensuring that the practice meets their requirements to an excellent standard. Act as the main point of contact for those clients.
  5. Deliver a professional and friendly accountancy service for client portfolio, ensuring their needs are met, and meeting with them at their premises when required.
  6. Prepare, review and present client information as required.
  7. Calculate and file client VAT returns as required.
  8. Work with the Tax team to ensure work is effectively delivered and that returns are filed at the right time.
  9. Carry out Company Secretarial duties including filing accounts and ensuring statutory requirements are adhered to.
  10. Address and discuss with clients any technical accounting issues identified during the course of client work.
  11. Effective use of IRIS software and other ICT packages including Quickbooks, Xero and Kashflow in support of delivering a consistently efficient and effective service.
